Basic Wine Making Equipment

The absolute basic wine making gear that any beginner is going to want is a fermenting bucket, a carboy or demijohn for the second stage of fermenting, an airlock that goes on your carboy to make it air tight and a siphon to move your wine around as it finishes its different stages of fermentation.

If you are looking to make a more advanced wine, then you are going to have to closely monitor it. This can be done with some various gauges such as a HP test kit, a hydrometer, a wine thief for safely removing wine from your brew and a thermometer. If you want, you can even make a homemade hydrometer.

There are  a few more bits of wine making equipment that you need if you want to make a more professional wine. These include items such as a device to filter your wine, a second carboy to help the fermentation process and corks and bottles instead of using cheap mason jars like I did on my first few batches.
